Frequently asked questions
How do I make an appointment?
Appointments can be made by phone, text, telegram or email. Please be aware that during clinic hours phone calls cannot be answered but some texts can! Voicemail messages can be left and these along with other messages will be answered at the end of the clinic where possible, or the following day.
I have a medical condition, how do I know if therapies are suitable for me?
Most contraindications to therapies can be identified during the consultation process carried out on your first appointment and appropriate adjustments to treatment can be made. If you have advanced or severe health needs please mention these when booking your appointment. A medical communication card will be provided at your first visit. If medical clearance is appropriate this card can be issued in advance so communication with your GP or specialist can be gained.
How many appointments will I need?
This really is a difficult question to answer! It depends on why you are accessing therapies in the first instance and how you respond to the therapy received. Acupuncture is cumulative so you can expect to attend between 6-12 sessions and we will assess initially after 3. With other services you are embarking on a journey and I would not expect this journey to be compete from a single intervention. Please remember that therapies provided are a catalyst to your own healing and what you do beyond the session will impact on your healing process. Ultimately it is for you to conduct the frequency and quantity of sessions required to support you along your journey.
What does it cost?
A full price list is available on the therapy page.
Are there discounts available?
I appreciate that commitment to a course of appointments can be costly and to help with this a 25% discount is available on your 6th appointment via a loyalty card. Please collect a signature each visit and bring your completed card along to claim your discount. Please also see the 3 tier price structure on the therapies page.
Can I claim for therapies on my private health insurance?
Please check with your provider. There are so many different cash back plans and medical insurances all with different policies. Many will pay for recognised therapies from registered practitioners. My registration can be checked by visiting the ‘about Heather’ page. A receipt can be provided each visit.
What should I wear for my appointment?
Wear light, loose, comfortable clothing. Clothing can be left on for many therapies as long as areas such as legs, arms, back, neck and abdomen can be accessed. Please also wear or bring a coat. Where tension or stagnation has been an issue areas will have been mobilised, warmed through and released. Cold or wind on these areas will undo much of the good that has been achieved.
How long will my appointment take?
Appointments are 30 – 60 minutes as agreed. Please allow an extra 15 minutes on your first visit for your consultation. All sessions are holistic in nature and part of any therapy is to listen and guide. You will be asked how you got on following your last session when you re-attend and often new issues can come to light requiring time for them to be addressed. Please bear this in mind if you have attended for a specific procedure.
How do I know which therapy best meets my needs?
During consultation we can discuss appropriate therapies and techniques. It may be that you have come along with a therapy in mind or it may be that you have an issue for which you are seeking support. We will discuss these together and form an appropriate plan of action.
I see you are a qualified massage therapist. Can I book a massage?
I made the decision early 2017 not to take new clients for general massage (E.g. Full body massage) and speciality massage such as hot stones and herbal compress massage. Stress release massage, head massage and foot massage are still available.
I can’t attend my appointment, what should I do?
I appreciate that situations may occur where an appointment may need to be changed or cancelled. Please notify me ASAP by phone or text so the appointment can be given to somebody else. Please give a minimum of 24hrs notice or the full fee may have to be charged. If you arrive late it may not be possible to provide the planned therapy and the full fee will be required.
